Was God a Comet?

Was God a comet? An icy body, appearing in the sky with a nucleus followed by a tail looks like a tiny sperm cell in search of an unfertilized egg. Could a cosmic sperm have impregnated this third planet eons ago? After millions of years, the dinosaurs developed, inhabited and dominated the earth for 150 million years and then vanished. That was (65 million years ago) when, most scientists agree, a comet hit the Earth and the resulting nuclear winter ended the Dinosaur Age. Some scientists believe another comet hit around 30 million years later, ushering in the latest great Ice Ages and the Mammalian Age. Homo Sapiens entered the scene less than 1/2 million years ago. Man's earliest recollections (7-10 thousand years ago) in the forms of myths all hearken to a preceding human era destroyed by a calamity from the gods. Impacting comets and the small celestial bodies that orbit the sun have had a significant effect upon the inhabitants of our planet ... and will again. Modern scientist would dismiss this as speculation. Speculation, it is, yet it is also indisputable. Most modern scientist dismiss the Great Flood as folk lore or myth, citing no scientific way that there could be a flood of global magnitude. Yet if a giant ball of ice were to hit the earth in the center of the Pacific Ocean, the resulting world-wide flood and climatic changes would be of staggering, cataclysmic, proportions leading to mass extinction of many species. It should also be mentioned that because a myth states that a flood was world-wide, people recording the event could not know such fact. Often we say things like "the room exploded into dispute" when actually the room did not explode. A person who saw his own world covered in a flood may assume or even record that the event was world-wide, when after all, it was a local event that seemed so devastating that it was assumed to be a world-wide event. For people of the ancient world to determine that a large natural event affected the entire world, a world they knew little about, is to give their claim too much veracity.

As the evolutionary door closed upon the dinosaur, it may for us mammals someday as well. Conversely, we may find that the mammal is one of the creatures that is capable of surviving ice ages and that we owe our very existence to a comet or a series of planetary impacts that shaped our world over millions of years.

We can only speculate at the impact a comet would have on the evolutionary and developmental ramifications of a planet like earth, but it seems evident that the destruction caused by such an event would also result in change that could usher in new life forms by changing the rules of existence. The rules could suddenly favor a being with a big brain, capable of adapting to the changes quickly rather than being a victim of the change and the laws of survival.
