The entire universe is one thing, perceived by us as two forces which simultaneously oppose each other. One force appears to possess an exploding nature, that is, it expands outwardly from one point. An excellent example is light. The other force appears as an imploding force, a massive rush inward toward one point from all directions. This force is best visualized as gravity. These forces have exactly the same amount of energy in the universe and appear to oppose each other. Our poor perspective limits our viewpoint to seeing these forces as separate and opposite, when actually they are the same. A black hole in our universe is a star when viewed from another perspective and vice versa. All other phenomenon are a perceptional chaos where realities are based upon the results of how how these forces interract.
As primitive man emerged from a wild and barbaric existence during the last Ice Age, he did so against the powers of nature. Man overcame nature in order to survive. He was awed by the powers of nature. A lightning strike, for instance, held more power than was comprehendible to ancient man. It was a type of fire, which came from the sky that held much more energy and packed a bigger punch than the fire with which he cooked his food and that which kept him warm. It was unexplainable and in an effort to explain something that had the power to kill many in an instant, God was invented. Early man had many gods, all of which were divisions of nature. As man conquered the Earth, different city-states developed in different places. Each had their own versions and pantheons of gods. If anything went wrong, it was because the gods were not happy. This city's gods were more powerful than that city's gods. When cities warred against each other, it was in the names of their gods and it was seen as a battle between gods. The ancient Hebrews were one of these groups. They claimed that their God was pre-eminent. Three religions in the world today recognize this god as being the one and only God. He has gone from being a local god to creator of the universe in 5,000 years and has seen his nature change numerous times in the interim. Did God create man or did man create God?
With the knowledge of what the universe is and what we are within it, what is the next step? Do ancient histories offer some hints? Do religions help or hurt? What is science's effect upon man and where is it taking us?
